Hey!

Thank you for visiting my lounge and taking the time to get to know a little about me. 

On this site you will find blogs, poems, and pictures about some of the experiences and thoughts that I have been through in my life as a woman, daughter, sister, mother, wife, student, teacher and human being in this crazy world.

Let's start with my name! Although my actual name is Maria, my family and friends have called me "Mari" ever since I can remember. I was born in the Dominican Republic but I have been in NYC since I was 5 years old. Fast forward to now, I am 31 years old (yikes!) and now live in Long Island with my husband and two sons (You'll see and read a lot about them). 

All of my life I have been an extremely introverted (though some may disagree) person. Often misunderstood because of my demeanor or lack of excitement and expression. Never really having meaningful or lasting friendships, I have always struggled to connect with people. Since a very young age, I found comfort in writing. All of my sadness, awkwardness, and loneliness would hide in between the words I wrote. 

There have been so many highs and lows in what I can only refer to as MY  reality that I thought it was time to share and try to connect. Everyone feels lonely at one time or another and I am all too familiar with being misunderstood, feeling super awkward, and not really knowing what to say. This is why I created "Mari's Lounge" . I needed a place where I could just be me. This is meant to be a free space to wonder through my thoughts and hopefully share your own. Just you and me sharing a moment where you enter into my world and decide if you like it here (I hope you do).
